HydrogenPro AS – Funding granted for several new projects
24th of June 2022. – HydrogenPro is launching several exciting R&D projects in both Denmark and Norway. The budget for these projects ranges from 0.27 million EUR to 3.87 million EUR, aiming to improve our market-leading technologies. The grants demonstrate both high interest and potential in our research and signal that efficient green hydrogen production plays a crucial role in the sustainable future of our society.
HydrogenPro, are excited to share our ambitious R&D strategy for the future. We are building all necessary infrastructure to make fundamental R&D in Denmark and testing and validating upscaled electrode technologies in our pilot test facilities in Norway.

The different projects are funded by the European Union, innovation and research funds from Denmark and Norway, and Energy Cluster Denmark. Several prestigious educational institutions and universities from Norway, Denmark, Finland and England are collaborating with HydrogenPro and ASP for the success of the different projects.

H2UP
Total budget: 1,02 million EUR

The overall objective of the H2UP project is to improve alkaline electrolyser technology at the cell and stack levels even further. The activated electrodes will be used in electrolysers, thereby reducing LCOH (Levelized Cost of Hydrogen) beyond 14%, if it is possible to transform the efficiency from electrode to stack level and, at the same time, lower other parasitic resistivities.

The project will develop a new and innovative platform providing proof-of-concept demonstrating electricity storage, green hydrogen production, and joint production of decarbonised chemicals.
H2-LEAN

Industrial PhD

The PhD project entitled “Development of Novel Test Methods for Improved Fundamental Understanding of Hydrogen and Oxygen Formation in Alkaline Electrolysis” focuses on research, technology development and innovation regarding the test of electrodes used for the production of “green” hydrogen. The project is carried out at ASP’s facilities in Denmark. Production of cost-competitive and more energy-efficient electrodes is necessary for advancing the field of renewable energy such as PtX solutions. During the project, the PhD candidate will improve the fundamental understanding of the hydrogen (HER) and oxygen evolution reactions (OER) via developing test cells operated under industrially relevant conditions. Furthermore, the HER and OER are studied by neutron and x-ray imaging techniques, providing a 3D mapping of the HER and OER within the porous nickel electrodes.
Initiated projects
We already have three minor projects running, with a timeline ranging from six to twelve months. The total funding is around 0.3 million EUR and is provided by Energy Cluster Denmark, RFF Vestfold, and Telemark – Regional Research Fund. Together with three universities and Research Technology Organizations (RTO) from Denmark and Norway, the aim is to develop better components for hydrogen production to increase both the efficiency and precision of HydrogenPro’s existing technology.
