Throughout 2023, HydrogenPro has embarked on significant initiatives, marking a pivotal period in its history. One notable achievement includes the successful delivery of a 220-megawatt bank of high-pressure alkaline electrolyzers to the US.
PORSGRUNN, DECEMBER 20, 2023. This year has been filled with milestones for HydrogenPro. A noteworthy accomplishment involves the proficient supply of a 220-megawatt bank of high-pressure alkaline electrolysis systems to Utah, US. CEO Jarle Dragvik highlights a significant achievement, stating,
“Our proof of the pudding is the delivery of 220 MW high-pressure alkaline electrolyzers to one of the world’s largest renewable energy storage hubs in the US.”
The Advanced Clean Energy Storage Hub (ACES Delta) is being jointly developed by Chevron New Energies Company and Mitsubishi Power. It is an industry and utility-scale energy project that will produce, store, and deliver green hydrogen. The first project is designed to convert and store up to 100 metric tons per day of clean hydrogen. This will be stored in two huge salt caverns, each with a capacity of 150 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy for dispatch back to the grid when it is needed.
Strategic partnership with Andritz
In April, HydrogenPro entered a partnership with ANDRITZ. This partnership resulting in an order for 18 high-pressure alkaline electrolyzers destined for a 100MW electrolysis plant at the Salzgitter Flachstahl site in Germany.
CEO Jarle Dragvik emphasizes the significance of this partnership, stating,
“This order marks a major milestone in our collaboration with ANDRITZ and represents the first step in our European expansion.”
ANDRITZ will deliver the technology of HydrogenPro on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis. Manufacturing is to begin in the end of first quarter, 2024 and the first stage of project to be operational by 2026. This project will provide 9000 tons of green hydrogen per year used to produce green steel.
Two R&D projects granted 15,3 MNOK
In June, HydrogenPro’s R&D department in Denmark secured two new projects, totaling NOK 15.3 million in value. These projects, funded by Innovation Fund Denmark, MissionGreenFuels, and Gassnova, focus on advancing the efficiency of alkaline electrolysis technology.
“This is very good news. We are extremely proud and honored to be part of these two solid R&D projects”, said Lars Pleth Nielsen, CEO of HydrogenPro Denmark.
Global expansion
HydrogenPro’s commitment to global expansion is evident in the establishment of offices in Duisburg, Germany and the United States.
The Duisburg office serves as a crucial subsidiary to meet customer needs and regulatory requirements in Europe. Additionally, our objective is to expand our presence in Germany shortly, enabling us to offer our services for all project disciplines directly.
In the course of 2023, the establishment of an office in the United States has emerged as a paramount objective for HydrogenPro. In May, the company achieved a noteworthy milestone with the successful completion of a private placement amounting to NOK 120 million, earmarked for the initial phase of its expansion into the US market.
Subsequently, in November, HydrogenPro INC, the company’s US subsidiary, appointed Jeff Spethmann as its Chief Executive Officer. Spethmann possesses a robust acumen as an entrepreneurial executive with expertise in business development. From January Spethmann is leading the US expansion in HydrogenPro.
This year HydrogenPro achieved a significant milestone by upgrading and expanding its production capacity at the Tianjin plant in China, reaching 500 MW from the previous 300 MW. The expansion, increasing capacity by 66%, is to meet the growing global demand for electrolyzers and green hydrogen.
Pre-selected supplier
In September, HydrogenPro’s collaborative partner, DG Fuels, made the announcement that Airbus had become a strategic partner and investor in DG Fuels, LLC (“DGF”), an emerging leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
As a pre-selected supplier to DG Fuels, HydrogenPro plays a key role in Airbus’s partnership with DG Fuels for sustainable aviation fuel production. HydrogenPro’s alkaline high-pressure electrolyzer is integral to DGF’s plant, with potential deals exceeding $500 million.
Subsequently, in November, DG Fuels disclosed a strategic collaboration with Air France – KLM.
The latter has made an investment in DG Fuels “to support the completion of the development work necessary to reach the Final Investment decision”. The group has invested USD 4.7 million in the SAF producer.
Awarded with the ESG Practice Pioneer Award
In September HydrogenPro received the ESG Practice Pioneer Award from Dun & Bradstreet. Few players on the hydrogen value chain set social responsibility on the top of their priority list, but HydrogenPro are taking the first step as a pioneer.
HydrogenPro is a listed company at Oslo Børs (Norway), and ESG policy and rating is very important. At the same time, ESG policy and rating becomes a decisive factor for getting investments and for winning projects. Most important, we care about our global supply chain performance which includes social responsibility, health, safety, and the environmental impact. We will exercise this principle to our operation globally, including China.
